About the Greenwood Fire Department
The Greenwood Fire Department consists of sixty-two (62) full-time employees and eight (8) part-time employees. GFD protects a 25-square-mile response area that has a permanent resident population of more than 50,000.
Greenwood has a daily visitor population of over 50,000 people due to the high retail occupancy concentration of the city, including Indiana’s second-largest enclosed shopping mall. GFD provides fire, explosion, rescue, EMS, and hazardous material response for the jurisdiction and assists regularly with five (5) primary mutual aid fire departments.

It is the mission of the Greenwood Fire Department – through fire suppression, emergency medical services, special operations, disaster preparedness, fire prevention, and community education – to preserve the life and property of all who live in and visit the City of Greenwood.

Abilities
Fire Surpression
The City of Greenwood has four fire stations throughout the city, with a fifth in the planning stages. Allowing the GFD to maintain an average 4.7 minute (283.8 seconds) response time to fire-related calls. With a current fleet of 4 full-time fire engines and 2 reserve engines(5 Pierce, 1 Seagrave), a 95-foot Pierce ladder truck, and a Spartan/Hackney heavy rescue. Not including staff and specialty vehicles. The GFD will take delivery of a new Seagrave tiller/ladder truck in mid-2024 and two new Seagrave engines in 2025.
Emergency Medical Care
The City of Greenwood holds a long-standing contract with Seals Ambulance to provide Advanced Medical Support(ALS) to the residents of Greenwood. With ALS/Medic ambulances housed at stations 92, 93 and 94. Additionally, all Greenwood firefighters hold a minimum of an EMT Basic(BLS) certification with additional department members operating as licensed paramedics(ALS).
