Hiring Process Outline
This outline provides detailed information on what can you expect during the application and selection process for the Greenwood Fire Department. All stages have been outlined so that applicants are prepared for the process. Failure to meet required standards at any stage during the process will eliminate the candidate from further participation.

Interested applicants can fill out our Interest Form to be notified when the next hiring process begins. Simply click Apply Now. If the application process is open, you will be redirected to fill out the initial application.

At this time, the GFD will start accepting applications. Any interested applicant who filled out the Interest Form will be notified via e-mail that the hiring process has begun. New applicants can click ‘Apply Now’ to be redirected to the initial application.

After the initial application, the applicant will receive instructions on completing their Video Interview and the Testing phase of the hiring process.

After the video interview and testing is complete, a board of active Greenwood Fire Department members will review the interview and testing answers. Applicants who pass the initial interview and testing will move on to the next phase.

Applicants who pass the initial video interview and testing will be invited to an in-person oral interview at Greenwood Fire Headquarters. This interview will consist of a board of members from the department. After the oral interview, applicants will complete the ladder climb: Climbing Ladder 91’s 100-foot ladder. By this phase of the process, applicants should have an active CPAT certification card.

Applicants who passed the previous phases of the process will be given a conditional offer of employment. At this time, the Department will set a date for the applicant to come in for their PERF physical. Information on the PERF (Indiana Public Employees Retirement Fund) 1977 Plan can be found Here.

At this point, the Department will work with the applicant on setting a date for the first date of employment with the Greenwood Fire Department!
